Santa Fe County Jail Roster

The Santa Fe County Jail Roster, New Mexico, is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently held in the local detention center. SantaFeCourt.us provides access to publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official county correctional facility website, by calling the non-emergency dispatch service (505-428-3720), or in person at the detention center's reception. The roster is maintained by the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility (SFADF). It is updated regularly throughout the day and is hosted on a separate county web server. The search allows you to find out the detention status of a person, booking date, and charges.

Find Santa Fe Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created when a person is officially admitted to the detention center. Staff record the detainee's personal information, photograph them, take fingerprints, and enter the information into the system.

Each record contains:

This data can be obtained online through the SFADF Inmate Lookup system — it shows records of individuals currently in custody. For court materials related to the case, use the Case Lookup portal of the New Mexico court system.

If you need a record not available in the online register (e.g., archival), submit a public records request. Requests for sheriff's documents should be directed to the county attorney's office — requests are processed through their portal in accordance with the State's Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA). For state-level criminal history checks, contact the Law Enforcement Records Bureau of the Department of Public Safety.

Search the Santa Fe Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The SFADF inmate search system supports two main methods:

Search MethodWhat to EnterWhen to Use
By Last NameLast Name; optionally — First NameWhen you know the person's name but do not have the booking number
By Booking NumberBooking NumberWhen the number is known from documents or from an attorney

Practical Tips

  • Enter the last name exactly as it appears in official documents. An error in even one letter may result in an empty result.
  • If the last name contains a hyphen or apostrophe, try the version without them — the system may process special characters differently.
  • Partial matches are not always supported. Enter the full last name.
  • When searching for a common last name, add the first name to narrow down the list.

Search yielded no results? Here's what to check:

  1. The person may not have been entered into the system yet — there is a time gap between physical arrest and the record appearing in the database.
  2. The person may have been released on bail or by court decision.
  3. If the city police made the arrest, the person may have been temporarily held elsewhere.
  4. Call the detention center at 505-428-3720 to verify the status.

If the person was transferred to the state system after sentencing, check the New Mexico Corrections Department offender search.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Santa Fe

The SFADF roster is updated throughout the day as detention center staff process new bookings and releases. This does not happen instantly.

Main limitations to consider:

  • Delay between arrest and appearance in the roster. The booking procedure — photographing, fingerprinting, medical examination — takes time. The record may appear several hours after the actual arrest.
  • Records disappear after release. The roster only displays those who are currently in custody. After release or transfer, the record is removed from the list.
  • This is not an archive. The system does not maintain a history of all past bookings in public access. To obtain archival data, an official IPRA request must be submitted.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes a last name is entered incorrectly, or data is updated with a delay. If you are sure the person is in custody but the search shows nothing — call.

The county notes on the Inmate Lookup page that the information on the jail roster web pages is intended for reference purposes only. For officially confirmed information, contact the detention center directly or the sheriff's office records division at 505-986-2400.
